A Supernova in Virgo

Amateur astronomer Koichi Itagaki discovered Supernova 2022hrs on April 16. The supernova is located in spiral galaxy NGC4647, a close companion of M60 in Virgo. This animation has artificially blinked the supernova for emphasis.

Taken in Fort Davis, Texas, the evening of April 28, 2022-04-29 03:49 UT, with a William Optics RedCat 250/51mm telescope, Baader UV/IR cut filter, ZWO ASI 533 MC camera, and SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 mount, ASI EAF and guide camera. All were controlled with a ZWO ASIAir Plus Controller. Processed in PixInsight, Topaz DeNoise, and Photoshop.
