On Solar Sidewalk Sun-Day, Sidewalk Astronomers world wide honor John Dobson's birthday with sidewalk solar observing. We chose the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge over Lady Bird Lake in Austin. We had a Questar for white light observation of sunspots and a Coronado Solar Max from AAS, operated by Larry Martin, viewing a spectacular solar prominence at the northern edge of the Sun.
We were sharing solar views from 9:45 to 1:00 PM with about 80 people stopping to look and talk. The Pfluger Bridge in Austin has to be right up there with the Pont Neuf in Paris as a great spot for meeting interesting people. Today more than met our expectations.
