The area bounded by Dripping Springs, Wimberly, and Johnson City provides many opportunities for dark skies relatively close to Austin. It includes two parks with regular star parites Pedernales Falls State Park and Reimers Ranch Observatory. There are also many other locations off from Ranch Road 12, US 290, and Texas 165 between Henly and Blanco. The usual cautions apply, be nice, scout ahead, and ask for permission.
