Mexican American Cultural Center

Sky darkness(Bortle class 1 is best): 8+

The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center near Rainey and River streets is a good spot for downtown observing. A large plaza between the center and the hike and bike trail has plenty of room for a star party and mostly unobstructed views of the sky. Nearby lighting is subdued and the bright lights of downtown buildings and nearby high rise condos are mostly screen by the center and trees.

More information:

The center has a large adjacent parking lot, but the area can be very busy when the restaurants in the nearby Rainey Street district are busy. Be sure to check for conflicts with scheduled events at the center.
